pushkin had a great podcast series on this.

she contrasted with the many prominent and influential (i.e., male) american reporters\politicians who supported hitler until pearl harbor, not just blind to nazi faults but insipid in praise.
and their words of admiration are similar to trump today, as inseparable from the gop in both actions and sentiment.

Most Jews who served in the Reich's forces thought they and their families would be safe from persecution.

Imaging their surprise when they found out their families had been exterminated anyway, and when they complained, were beheaded themselves.
