For those who remember me from Taking Care of Parents, Mom died last week.

She aspirated and couldn't breath very well, and couldn't swallow.

Dad was in rehab. We didn't tell him until he was back.

He's well on his way down the dementia path and got confused and thought I was talking about HIS mother, not my mother.

He's clear now, and he's sad.

Now the paperwork begins for Mom's estate.

Such sad news. Inevitable....but that doesn't make it any less sad.

When my mother died, my father had already declined severely with Alzheimers. But he understood. He barely spoke at that point, and didn't verbalize his feelings. But the look on his face, the pain and longing in his eyes, said it all.

That was back in 1999. And your words bring it so intensely back to the surface.....it has me in tears.

Good luck to you and your dad.
