This particular poster made a similar argument congratulating President Trump during his first term for pardoning SEALS convicted of murdering prisoners in custody.
This poster is not alone. It seems that incompetent racist bullshitters have a way of convincing a significant portion of the population that they are the real deal.
It worked in Germany during the 1930’s. Apparently it works here as well.

iirc, Saddam thought he could win against Iran, because so much of the top Iranian brass either blew town when the Shah did, or were sacked because they did not pass the new regime's ideological muster.
Now, Shinyland is going down the same road Iran did. Ideological purity, and butt kissing, are what matter.
