My wife and I are looking to spend approx. 6 months/year as retirees in France (probably Cote d'Azur). We have Medicare and a BCBS supplement that covers emergency care internationally. Will that satisfy the insurance requirement for a renewable long-stay visa?

If not, any recommendations, please? Also, is this a policy we should get from a French/European company, a US-based one, or ...?

Merci!

PS: I'm fairly sure we've got all the other items for the visa covered: financial, place to stay, background checks, etc.

My recommendation would be to find an insurance broker based
in France who can guide you through the plan that will best
meet your needs.

I don't have experience with that specific situation, but French bureaucrats do like French companies.

Your friendly neighbourhood LLM suggests there are several firms which specialize in this.
Don't believe the following, it might be hallucination, but it might be a good starting point:

There are several French companies that specifically design health insurance policies for foreign residents and long-stay visa applicants. These firms understand the precise requirements set by French authorities and tailor their policies accordingly. Examples include:
· ACS-AMI: Offers "France Long Stay Cover," specifically aimed at foreign nationals living in France from 3 to 12 months, with comprehensive coverage that meets visa requirements
· Mondassur: Recommends its "GoldFrance" insurance, which is designed for people coming to France on a long-stay visa and offers plans to suit various budgets and needs
· Fab French Insurance: Specializes in ensuring policies meet French visa residency requirements and provides guidance on compliance
· ASTTRAL: Another provider with experience in long-stay visa insurance for France
