When buying a new dishwasher, like the Bosch, make sure your dishes actually fit.

Yes, this is very important. But also note that many modern dishwashers have upper racks that can be raised or lowered as necessary.

We learned the need to bring ours into the showroom to try them, physically.

That's a good idea! But if you have really oversized dinnerware, then they won't fit in any dishwasher because they're all pretty much the same (they have to fit in roughly a 24x24x28 space).
