There is a significant oil and gas field offshore Israel. After years of development, production has started.
Looking at the map in the Wiki article, there appears to be a significant deposit right offshore Gaza. Think the Gazans, or the Palestinian Authority, would ever see a nickle of revenue from it, even though it is offshore Gaza?
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviathan_gas_fieldLooking at the trend on that map: O&G offshore Egypt, and Israel, then onshore in Syria, the big gap is in Lebanon. Total drilled an expository well offshore Lebanon in 23, but came up empty. Lebanon being on the edge of being a failed state has inhibited further exploration.
I would not be surprised to see Israel take over all of Lebanon, with the excuse of getting rid of the Islamic boogyman, but, in reality, as part of the "Greater Israel" project, and to get it's hands on more potential O&G reserves.
