for at least one state-mandated vaccine, according to data published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in October.
Coverage of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is particularly low in Gaines County Texas, where nearly 1 in 5 incoming kindergartners in the 2023-24 school year did not get the vaccine.
The 18% vaccine exemption rate for the county is one of the highest in the state, according to data from the Texas health department.

Will be interesting to see who ends up on this “commission”. I’m guessing (being facetious here- but not by much)… Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, two MDs from the political arm of MAGA known as “America’s Frontline Doctors” and a bevy of no name political hacks, many of whom have been hawking various miracle cures on X and Youtube.

Commissions don’t do research, run double blind placebo controlled drug trials or do the statistical analysis required to form valid conclusions.

But we absolutely know the foregone conclusions that this “commission” will reach.

And the antivax crowd will cheer and march their children to illness and death, believing that they are somehow “owning the libs” by doing so.

I've been a pioneer in the art of owning Libs.

I and my family have had every step of Covid Vaccine, and we masked the shit out of ourselves during the pandemic. Did the zoom school for one year. I feel I might have gone too far, but I'd do it again when and if the time came.

We've always been "tribes". What we were tribes about may have changed, but it's still "us" vs "them". Segregation, for example. I was just thinking about that last night. If we could transport ourselves back to the early 60s, people wanting to integrate schools, let black people use the same bathrooms and drinking fountains as white people, let black kids attend prom (or -horrors!!- date white kids), they would be called "woke". Different issues today, but same excrement. We look back 60 years ago and see that those segregationists were on the wrong side of history (well, most of us do), and the "woke" integrationists were on the right side. Sixty years from now, it will probably be the same again with gay rights and trans-rights.

With regard to vaccines, it's just science. Science doesn't care what your political views are. You're either right, or you're wrong, based on the data. The anti-vaxxers are wrong.

While I was doing a VITA tax return one fellow told me all about how Trump was going to save everything. I just concentrated more on entering all of his data. People over 65 aren't eligible for EIC - why is that? Social Security kicks in maybe? He wasn't eligible.

Ivermectin also cures cancer and if you combine it with one other thing it cures everything. Fascinating. Also, he pays nothing for Humana HMO, but he gets it from an agent. Go figure. He didn't owe anything, but I encouraged him to keep filing as it helps in case of identity theft and starts the statute of limitations running.

I was concerned about what would happen if someone brought up politics but if it's as easy as listening to that - no problem. I just only talked taxes.
