I have owned Tokio Marine since it was profiled in Outstanding Investor Digest in the early 1990's. Over the years I brought the business up on COBF and on this or that Berkshire forums, but it wasn't much of interest to anyone. It was brought up back then when investors were "digesting" the long term float models of insurance co's like Berk, Fairfax, Markel, White Mountains, and such.
I wish I still had those publications just to read what was posted back then. I had owned Berk and Markel for some time of course but to be honest it wasn't until OID's detailed stuff came out that I actually understood the business models. There was just nobody in my life and no concept spinning around that was opening up my dead head brain to how these things worked.
It was a very exciting time for a lot of us. Miss that era, we thought we discovered the Holy Grail!
