...for now. But it was a disturbingly close call. This SCOTUS may be the worst ever.

So, expect ketchup to fly at 1600 Penn.

As Trump the Gangster likes to day "we can do it the easy way, or the hard way".

The easy way foiled by bleeding heart, open borders, liberals, like Roberts and Barret.

So, even more juice applied to getting Trumpers elected, both in DC, and in state houses, to pass an amendment redefining who is a citizen.

Here in Michigan, the three Repubs running for Gov of Michigan, are arguing about which of them is Trumpier.

His nibs claiming only an act of Congress is needed, to unwind the 14th Amendment. Sorry, doesn't work that way. He needs to bend enough states to ratify the act, as an amendment, to unwind the clause in the 14th.

Following the ruling, Trump called for legislation to address the birthright citizenship issue.

The president posted, “The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”:

Dope does have a point about "birth tourism". We need legislation defining that if people cross the border to squirt their spawn out here, there needs to be more required, like a parent being here legally, as a resident, not a tourist, and intending to stay here. 100 years ago, when a parent became a naturalized citizen, the spouse and spawn were all listed on the naturalization certificate. My dad, and his younger siblings, all born in the US, are listed on his father's naturalization certificate, even though they would have been US citizens by birth.

Steve203: Dope does have a point about "birth tourism".

In fact, he does not have a point. The drafters of the birthright clause considered this question and rejected it.

Senator Cowan added that gypsies were people who “have no homes, pretend to own no land, live nowhere, settle as trespassers wherever they go, and whose sole merit is a universal swindle . . .” Id.

Congress did not accept Senator Cowan’s argument that native-born gypsy children should be denied birthright citizenship. The only Senator who responded was dismissive: “The only invasion of Pennsylvania within my recollection was an invasion very much worse and more disastrous to the State, and more to be feared and more feared, than that of Gypsies. It was an invasion of rebels [at Gettysburg].” See id. at 2892 (statement of Sen. Conness).

More important, neither an allegiance nor a domicile requirement can be squared with the fact that native-born gypsy children were “undoubtedly” birthright citizens pursuant to the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and the Citizenship Clause.
