Lying to Congress - or ignoring a subpoena, or being held in Contempt by Congress is only a crime if you have an [R] after your name.

I hate Comey. He put his finger on the scale of a presidential election. As far as I’m concerned, he can rot in hell.
However, there’s no way in hell he will ever be convicted. There was no crime. This was a fake fix to offer some red meat to his base to fall for, which based on Dope’s response, worked perfectly. He fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

BTW, Comey had an [R] after his name for about 40 years.

1. Had Hillary! dead to rights and ranked the case
2. Lied to Congress
3. Deliberately leaked classified docs
4. Violated the shit out of Carter Page’s and a zillion other people’s civil rights
5. Launched a soft coup against a sitting President of the United States.

Wow, that’s a pretty bad ass list of crimes.
And yet, only a couple of days before the time to bring charges would expire, the only indictment were charges of making false statements and obstructing a congressional investigation.
The federal prosecutor in Virginia, who had been tasked with pursuing the case, resigned last week for lack of evidence. Any many other career prosecutors in the office have stated that the evidence does not merit criminal charges.
So Trump appoints a personal lawyer, with absolutely no experience in criminal prosecution, to lead the case. In fact, in a highly unusual move, the Grand Jury wouldn’t indict Comey on charge #1, lying to Congress. They indicated Comey on charges #2 & #3, along with a ham sandwich.
This case reeks of banana republic justice.
He’s scum.
In America, even scum deserve their day in court. Just ask convicted 34-count felon, adjudicated rapist, and life long criminal scum, Donald Trump.

Comey's letter tilted that election to Trump. It was outrageous to do something like that within 30 days of election, and there's still a good possibility he intended to affect the outcome of the election. I want him treated fairly in spite of that, it seems like you

I think I remember that incident. He said at the time, he was in a no win position. If he released it, he would be blamed for helping one side. If he didn't release it, he would be blamed for helping the other side, by suppressing the information.

Sure, he might be criticized by MAGA, but at least he could say that he was adhering to long standing FBI policy of never commenting on in-progress investigations.

He said at the time, he was in a no win position.
Yep. That’s what he said. I’ll note that he is spinning that a bit AND he picked the option that would help the side he favored politically.
This was alleged to be new info on a case that had already been well investigated. And if memory serves, it took only a few days to investigate this new information and find that it didn’t add anything to the previous investigation.
He had the option to wait a couple of days to let his investigators do their job before making any public announcement. Or ask them for a quick assessment of the odds of it being something or nothing before deciding whether to announce something or not.
But none of that matters to this sham indictment of a Trump enemy. It only serves to remind trumps “friends” that their “friendship” is only good until the next time trump needs to use you for some benefit to himself - with all the risks falling on you.

Funny, a Justice Department Inspector General report in 2019 detailed "significant errors and omissions" in the applications used to obtain and renew a FISA warrant against Page but clearly nothing indictable.
Even today, Comey was never indicted by Trumpedo with respect to Page despite having every opportunity to do so.
Funnier still, you claim "heads should have rolled for" what exactly? Errors? Omissions?
Funniest of all, you have yet to admit that Trumpedo was caught much more "dead to rights" with a treasure trove of government documents clearly marked with various levels of classification -- "top secret", "secret," "confidential," including signals intelligence -- than those Clinton had on her server that you whined about upthread.

I read his book, and am not satisfied. He conspicuously added that an underling didn't want him to release that they had gone through the letters and found zip, nada, bupkiss, because the election was 10 days away. The press needed to look harder at the sequence of events and didn't - just characterized Comey as a working shlub - which meant they didn't think he meant to throw the election. Well, then go look at why the release of the emails to the FBI happened the way it did. I smell a "soft coup". ;P
There wasn't time enough for voters to recover.

Lied to CongressDope, would you mind clarifying what the lie actually was?
I'm not being cute - the indictment didn't say what the alleged false statement was, and all the news reporting seems to think that the false statement was his claim that he didn't authorize the leak to the
WSJ. But that statement was true. McCabe and Comey's accounts of what happened
after the publication of the article differ materially, but I don't believe that McCabe has ever claimed that Comey was the one who authorized the leak. McCabe has said that McCabe authorized the leak, and he told Comey about it later. He did not say that Comey authorized the leak:
https://www.foxnews.com/video/6380147957112(the first Fox panelist doesn't believe that there will be a conviction; the second panelist doesn't think the case ever gets to trial).
You seem to have been far more absorbed in the details of this. Is there another statement that's out there where McCabe actually said that Comey was the one who authorized the leak? Or is the indictment going to be based on another statement?
