I was unaware of the complicated web between FDA and USDA. The take-away is that we need an overhaul of the entire system, and we need to fund both agencies. During the Obama years, they passed an improvement for the system, but Congress never funded it. So people continue to get sick and occasionally die.
And that's not even getting into the US allowing ingredients that are banned everywhere else (a rant for another time!).

In his world, every person is responsible for doing their own due diligence for everything they do. From the air one breathes, to the water from one's tap, the roof joists over one's head, the tires on the car, to the fast food take out window.
A person who is harmed by a negligent food business should file a lawsuit for damages.... a neat trick when the injured party is lying in an ICU with his/her organs shutting down.
In his world, the combination of punitive damage awards and bad publicity will bankrupt the business and/or people will stop patronizing the offending business. The power of the market.
