Republican hawks warn of ‘disastrous mistake’ as Trump nears deal with Iran

Roger Wicker, who chairs the Senate armed services committee, said the “rumored 60-day ceasefire” would be a “disaster” in a post on social media. “Everything accomplished by Operation Epic Fury would be for naught,” he added.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trump, warned: “If a deal is struck to end the Iranian conflict because it is believed that the strait of Hormuz cannot be protected from Iranian terrorism and Iran still possesses the capability to destroy major Gulf oil infrastructure, then Iran will be perceived as being a dominate force requiring a diplomatic solution.”

Ted Cruz, Thom Tillis and other Republicans criticize Trump's emerging Iran deal

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said Saturday on X that he was "deeply concerned" about what he was hearing from inside the administration.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said Sunday on CNN that he would not support the deal as he understands it and called out Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth by name.

Of course, Trump's spew could be another fakeout, or a double cross, because that is who he is. The US doesn't exactly have the moral high ground, given is history of support for brutal, repressive regimes, like the Shah, and the Galtieri and Pinochet juntas, and terrorist organizations like the "Contras" and Mujahideen.

TACO....TACO....TACO

Updated Sun, May 24, 2026 at 9:38 AM CDT

President Trump said Saturday evening an agreement with Iran that would set the framework for renewed peace talks and reopen the Strait of Hormuz would be announced shortly. In a Truth Social post on Sunday morning, however, the president appeared to tap the brakes, saying while negotiations were ongoing and “constructive” he did not want to “rush into a deal” and that time was on the US’ side.

Same crap he's spewed, repeatedly, for the last two months.

Ben Meiselas' partisan spin on yet another Trump TACO, with an interesting sidebar about how kissyface Trump is saying he is with Xi. ...of course he wants to be kissyface with Xi. The Chinese market is large, and USian "JCs" want to profit from trading with China. MONEYMONEYMONEY. Hey, Mr Prole. Do you realize you are being sold out, again?

"when it comes time to hang all the capitalists, they will sell us the rope" attributed to Lenin.

A good one, no doubt.

A better one from a cartoon (New Yorker, I think) is two well dressed guys in suits standing on a streetcorner, buildings on fire behind them, people panhandling and selling apples from a tray, sewage slithering towards a drain, sky full of smoke and smog, and the one guys says “Yes, but for a shining moment we created a lot of shareholder value.”

Senator Graham of Israel, says out loud, what the unacceptable end point of the war is:

If it is perceived in the region that a deal with Iran allows the regime to survive and become more powerful over time, we will have poured gasoline on the conflicts in Lebanon and Iraq.

A deal that is perceived to allow Iran to survive and possess the ability to control the Strait in the future will put Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Shia militias in Iraq on steroids.

The only acceptable end point is the total destruction of the Iranian regime, which, we have always expected, is the outcome that Israel demands, regardless of the cost in USian blood and treasure.
