Mad King Donald announced in letters posted to social media today that he would place a 30 percent tariff on goods from the European Union and Mexico, putting an end to the false claims of thoughtful ongoing negotiations and again setting fire to America’s economic relationships with two of its biggest trading partners.
In his letters to Mexico, America’s largest source of imports, and the European Union, a trading bloc of 27 nations that collectively make up the world’s third-largest economy, Mad King Donald has escalated his attack on two of America’s closest and most pivotal trading partners.
France has been one of the loudest voices in Europe calling for retaliatory tariffs against the United States if a deal isn’t reached. Mr. Macron reiterated a plea for the European Commission, which is negotiating on behalf of the E.U. countries, to mobilize “all the instruments at its disposal.”
Others calling for retaliation include Brando Benifei, chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with the United States, and Bernd Lange, chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade.
Mr. Benifei said the E.U.’s executive branch should “immediately put on the table a series of new credible countermeasures on goods, services, and intellectual property rights that would take effect Aug. 1 without an agreement, and let’s no longer postpone those that are due to come into force next week.”Remind me: has Mad King Donald sent a letter and placed tariffs on Russia?
Just askin'.
