She's angling for a SCOTUS seat. If Trump is smart, he'd ask Thomas to retire so he can appoint Cannon or some other youngster. Otherwise he risks the dems taking the majority in the Senate in November which would mean no new SCOTUS nominations for Trump.

Thomas is a reliable right wing nutter, so better the nutter he knows, vs a new one he hopes is a right wing nutter.
Here's a thought: declare Biden's presidency invalid. That means Justice Jackson's nomination is invalid. So boot Jackson and appoint another right wing nutter, in her place.
