OSLO, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who lives in hiding, won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for fighting dictatorship in the country, receiving the award despite U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated insistence he deserved it.
Machado, a 58-year-old industrial engineer, was blocked in 2024 by Venezuela's courts from running for president and thus challenging President Nicolas Maduro, who has been in power since 2013.

I am so relieved that there is at least one institution that didn't cave to Trump. There are so many reasons why he was not fit for this award. You don't need to look any further than his pardoning of the violent criminals from January 6, but the list goes on and on.
I would wager that there has never been a Prize winner who openly campaigned for the award. That should have been enough to disqualify him right there. People who are truly deserving of such an award tend to have a lot of humility.
