dividends20: Rhetorical question. How would you feel if someone called Obama a "purple monkey" on live TV ?

Stay away from offensive language against all races including white Americans.

You guys rationalize racist despicable language.

I was hoping albaby1 would step into this inane conversation again to correct this nonsense but perhaps even his saintly patience has worn thin.

First, Bill Maher, a comedian, was making a joke, as comedians do, about Trump's hair color.

Maher said an orangutan's fur was the only thing in nature that matches the shade of Trump's trademark hair and that he would donate $5 million to a charity if Trump could prove he wasn’t the "the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan."

This joke actually combines two elements Trump is famous for: first, his orangey-blond hair; second, his penchant for baiting people -- and getting headlines -- with money for foolish performance... in this case a reference to Trump baiting president Obama to release his school transcripts in exchange for a $5 million donation to charity by Trump if Obama did so. Or Trump's demands for Obama to "release" his birth certificate -- if Obama was really a U.S. citizen, Trump's argument went, Obama would happily comply. As a result, Maher turned the tables on Trump and joked that if Trump was not an orangutan, Trump would gladly prove his lineage with his birth certificate.

This entire episode is so long ago and long forgotten that Michael Cohen was still Trump's attorney at the time.

Trump sued Maher.

In a letter to Maher before filing the lawsuit, Trump's lawyer wrote, "Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump's birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan." Trump wanted the promised $5 million.

Legal experts said Trump was unlikely to succeed in his lawsuit because Maher's offer was obviously a joke, and courts rarely enforce verbal contracts that are clearly satirical in nature.

Trump dropped his lawsuit against Maher after about ten weeks.

Finally, there's no history of racist remarks about "orange" men. Had you instead simply said that Maher was "dehumanizing" Trump with his remark, then you would have been more accurate and on more solid ground.

As far as calling Obama a "purple monkey," well... the "purple" part makes no sense at all. What about Obama is purple?

But yes, the word "monkey" in reference to a Black individual, is clearly historically racist.
