Thought about putting this on the science board, but I think it applies here, too. What we perceive as the decline in human morality vs the reality of it. (Not talking government. This is about people and society.)

A 2025 poll of 9,600 Americans found that 46% believed that rudeness is overall increasing, whereas only 9% found it was decreasing compared to pre- pandemic levels.

Why do quite a few people still believe that society is in moral decline? For one thing, news outlets tend to focus on negative events. Negative news is also more likely to be shared on social media.A lot more there. I do think that last statement is a biggie. "If it bleeds, it leads". We mostly hear the negative, but the data implies it's not getting worse.
The author does acknowledge that some of these data are "self-reporting".
