My last day of work was late January. I had a few job offers and was going to go back to work in April but decided against the job since I was going to be a sub-contractor and I didn't think the company I was going to be a sub to was keen on me working 32 or less hours per week. Looking at the numbers I don't think I need to work but if something interesting comes along, especially if I can do it at home, then I would do it for a while.

Otherwise the biggest issue in retirement seems to be trying to remember what day of the week it is.

Investment wise I have money to cover my retirement from now until social security mostly in treasuries and then the rest of the portfolio is in indexes and some stocks (Google, BRK, and about 10 others). If I don't end up working any more this year, I will try to convert some money from tax deferred plans to Roth. I also have to withdraw a small amount from my inherited account also. Just a lot of number playing to minimize taxes.

My pension is still being computed/checked by OPM and in the meantime they have been paying me about 50% of what I should be getting. I just got noticed that I should be receiving documentation regarding the final number and then back pay within the next month. Besides that money, my wife and I have a couple of small pensions that will start at 65 and we plan to delay my social security for a while (likely to 70) and hers to her FRA.

Someone asked me how it feels to be retired and I said I honestly don't feel retired, yet. Feels like a long vacation. Once we settle on a retirement home and I'm not longer talking to companies then it will sink in. Maybe in the fall or winter we will take a trip to Europe. I've been dealing with a long term foot injury that has prevented much walking last year but now finally feels better.

And maybe one day my TD accounts will get moved to Schwab to simplify things for my wife.

Remembering what day of the week it is can be very important. Today is trash day. Last night I remember at the last minute before going to bed.

@onepoorguy - technology can help with your issue.

Heard a guy mention that he had three different ring tones
1. Wife
2. Parents
3. All others

If your phone has the capability, you do something similar with alarms. Set up a weekly trash day reminder :)

Yeah, I've actually started doing that with some tasks. Like changing air filters, operating the under-sink valves (annually), changing smoke detector batteries, etc. I may have to add trash day to the list...

I also use "Keep" for notes and chores. Even trivial things like "call the insurance company", because if I don't then I may not remember until later in the day when they're already closed (been there, done that). I need to put "order 1/4" drip tubing" because I'm out, and I haven't ordered any yet (nor dropped by HD/Lowes to pick it up).
