If we’re more upset at someone who tweets a pic showing himself as Jesus…

than we are at the harm being inflicted on the people we are called to treat like Jesus…

…then we still have some soul searching to do.

I must be misreading this. Is that "the people we are called (upon) to treat, like Jesus called upon us to do" or "the people we are called (upon) to treat, as we treat (revere) Jesus?

The first.

“call/called” has a specific meaning within the Christian tradition that is slightly different from secular usage.

Consider the following sentences:

Jesus calls us.
We are called.
We are called to serve.

There’s more a sense of immediacy and personal engagement than is conveyed by by “called upon”.

He might alienate some religious voters.

Jesus liked girls.

Quite different than many of the loudest 'religious' voters on the Right.

And if it came out that Jesus entered into a legal, blessed, monogamous and faithful marriage that would *really* alienate the Religious Right---after all, their divorce rates are nice and high.

Trump, c'mon - Jesus is the opposite of the flock.

Why not find a gay icon who want to shun health insurance and embrace automatic guns?

That would solidify the base in these tough political times.
