..saying words to the effect, re Venezuela "this is not MAGA", "this is not "America First"

How about the "leaders and statesmen"? One success has gone to their head, and they are drunk with power.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) wants the US to press on with full "regime change".

House Democrat Who Praised Trump’s Maduro Operation Slams Him for Letting ‘Cronies’ Run Venezuela

Wasserman Schultz told CNN on Monday that the elation she and many other Floridians felt had already shifted to “cautious optimism” — and was fast approaching “real concern.” She said it was disturbing that Trump was going to allow Maduro’s “cronies” to lead the country, despite the president saying the U.S. will “run” Venezuela for the time being.

“Things actually appear to have gotten worse not better [in Venezuela], and that has to be the focus,” she told anchor Boris Sanchez. “We need a transition to democracy. We need to make sure that there is prosperity and liberty that is restored to Venezuela. And that just doesn’t appear to be on Donald Trump’s priority list.”

Lindsey Graham (Repub) uses Islamic boogyman terminology to get people riled up.

Sen. Lindsey Graham Says Cuba’s, “Communist Dictatorship’s Days Are Numbered—There’s No Way That the Communist Dictatorship in Cuba Survives After the Takedown of Maduro”

Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One alongside President Trump, Graham said in a video posted on X that Venezuela, Cuba and Colombia have for years functioned as part of what he described as a “drug caliphate” in the United States’ backyard.

Graham said the Trump administration was now moving to dismantle governments he described as being run by narco-terrorist dictators, arguing that the operation against Maduro marked a decisive step toward “clearing our backyard” of drug trafficking networks that send narcotics into the United States.

Daily Wire's Matt Walsh:

There's nothing that stands in our way. There's no military or militia that's powerful enough to stop us. There's no international law that holds us back because international law is fake. You know, the only laws that exist are rules that are written and codified by and enforced by a legitimate governing authority and enforced with violence if necessary. That's it. Those are the only laws. That's what a law is by definition, and everything else is just a suggestion.

No matter who you vote for. No matter who you listen to. You get NeoCons bent on world domination at bayonet point.

Now, that is hubris! Of the classical variety. We know where that leads and how it ends. But Trump and his army of idiot sycophants has no idea.

Hubris is excessive pride, arrogance, or overconfidence, originating in ancient Greece where it meant defying the gods, leading to downfall (like Icarus flying too close to the sun). In modern usage, it's extreme self-belief that blinds individuals to flaws, causing them to overestimate abilities and act foolishly, often resulting in failure or ruin in business, politics, or personal life, serving as a classic warning for "pride before the fall".

Characteristics

Excessive Pride: An inflated sense of self-worth, believing oneself superior or invincible.

Overconfidence: Overestimating one's abilities, leading to reckless decisions.

Arrogance: A sense of entitlement, often dismissing warnings or the advice of others.

Disregard for Limits: A belief one can transcend human limitations or manipulate destiny.

Consequences

Downfall/Ruin: Leads to failure, embarrassment, or destruction, as seen in tragic heroes.

Blindness: Causes foolish actions that go against common sense.

Divine Punishment (Ancient Greece): Attracted retribution from gods like Nemesis.

Examples in Culture & Life

Mythology: Icarus (flew too close to the sun), Phaethon (drove sun chariot).

Literature: Macbeth (believed prophecies made him invincible).

Modern Life: Leaders ignoring expert advice, investors overestimating market knowledge, or anyone dismissing valid concerns due to ego.

How to Avoid It

Cultivate Humility: Recognize human limitations and the value of others' input.

Seek Feedback: Be open to criticism and external perspectives, especially from subordinates or peers.

Practice Self-Awareness: Regularly check your own motivations and confidence levels.

Steve203: Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) wants the US to press on with full "regime change".

Wasserman Schultz has sponsored or co-sponsored legislation related to Venezuela for some time: the VOICE Act, to impose sanctions on officials in the Maduro government responsible for banning opposition candidates and undermining elections; the REVOCAR Act to block U.S. transactions with Venezuela’s state oil company that provide revenue to the Maduro regime; AFFECT legislation, to direct U.S. support for multilateral human rights investigations and accountability efforts concerning the Maduro government’s abuses; the Venezuela TPS Act of 2025, to designate Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status; the he Venezuelan Adjustment Act, to create a legal pathway for certain Venezuelan nationals in the U.S. to become lawful permanent residents; and the VALOR Act, to set U.S. policy to support democratic benchmarks for Venezuela, maintain sanctions until democracy is restored, and authorize support for human rights monitors and election observers.

About 45% of her district are Hispanic, with about 5% Venezuelan. So while she's called for regime change through sanctions and other forms of pressure -- and she, like many others in her district, are happy to see Maduro gone -- I haven't seen her voice support for the 'invasion'. Since albaby1 lives in Florida, he likely has a more informed perspective.
