The week's question
In March 2025, in the thread "Re: OT, out", Umm asked the members: "Do you think it is because America is made up of magical soil that makes businesses based in America magically profitable?" This week it is put to everyone again. The button below opens the small thread re-asking it - read what others have said so far, then give your own answer as an ordinary reply.

It looks like a decent balanced risk/reward at that price but not sure if it's a "falling knife" in the way that we normally talk about things on this board

We all have our favorite boards, this one and Interesting Microcaps are two of mine. I'd love to have a vibrant value investing board, also, but there is a lot more competition for equities and - maybe like antiquing - there are only so many targets for bargain shopping and when there are many participants real values become very difficult to find. Value investing discussion is in a dismal state.

I think DIS and a few others are as close as we can get currently. I think DIS is a case where there is some durable, long term value with a very long tail for those who are patient.

Falling Knives were always a specialized case of value investing to me, a case where a retail investor could be nimble in a way that larger players could not to take advantage of a very short term price dislocation. Being able to hold longer term positions in less trendy companies like Disney that are not receiving as much investing attention are just another edge we have. Or to state it differently, maybe there is more opportunity right now in GARP value than cigar butt.

Also long DIS
