How about providing a barrier between the left's street army and the ICE building?
Oh, right- that's expensive. Well so is having ICE agents do what they're having to do every day.Where? They can't go onto the ICE property to put in a barrier, and if they seal the ICE property off from the public roads and sidewalks, then how would ICE folks get in and out to do their jobs?
I mean, barriers aren't expensive - I'm sure the local public works department has a ton of them that can be deployed if needed. And I'm sure ICE has access to plenty as well. But how would that actually work?
What are they going to do, riot?Maybe! If the PB or ICE start trying to
stop people from protesting, rather than just ignoring them unless they commit a crime, you turn a rather forlorn protest of a few dozen die-hards into a big event. So instead of helping, you make it much worse - breathing new life into a fading act of protest, and
increasing the chance that things get out of hand once you 10x the crowd.
I'll leave it to someone else to look up the definition of assault with intent. Let's also remind ourselves that if the ICE agents busted some local for assault with a laser that the Multnomah county (that's Portland's county DA) would set them free in under 5 minutes.Last I checked, assaulting a
federal officer would be a
federal crime. So it would go to federal court and be under the DOJ whether to continue with charges, not the local DA.
BTW, since ICE
isn't arresting anybody, there's a pretty strong likelihood that they don't think that shining a laser is actually assault with intent.
