we are rapidly being perceived as functioning like a banana republic. Dope, LM, Jedi, and Mike don't seem aghast at this.

I'm certainly not surprised. I penned the "General rants", and offered the US was on it's way to being a very large, heavily armed, aggressive, banana republic, 20 years ago.
