If Dems do take Congress in 2026 (big "if"), I would expect an impeachment to follow soon after. I'm sure they'll have a smorgasbord of offenses to choose from by then.

That's true. I think it is still important for the Democrats to offer a bill of impeachment to the House every time he commits an offense that in "normal times" would result in impeachment. It forces the Republicans to go on the record saying "No, that's okay." It forces Americans to examine how far from "normal" we have drifted. It puts his actions in historical perspective.

Johnson certainly can, and no doubt will, block any bill introduced by Democrats from reaching the floor. Thune wouldn't play a roll unless a BoI somehow pass the House. The important thing is that it will be a record that both parties will be running on.
