All the domestic supermarkets in the UK are encouraging self scanning, some clothes stores too most notably Primark.

I was surprised to see it in Aldi and Lidl too as they were already run by a skeleton crew of staff.

This is driven both by a higher minimum wage and online deliveries where many staff are now picking from the shop floor, driving deliveries / manning collection stations.
