My 'love' for Europe is no secret but I do call em like I see em.

The selling of US Treasuries by the Danish -- that's sort of a badass move.

And frankly I don't blame them. Like I've said - you people should be charged at least 8-9% to borrow money. Shitty culture, leads to lots of other things that many would deem a high risk loan.

More of your country --is a pawn shop.

I think the Greenland rhetoric from Trump is stupid and counterproductive. There's a treaty that lets us pretty much do whatever we want up there so if we want to build Golden Dome launch sites, we can.

But Trump hasn't actually done anything. Issued dumb threats? Sure.

If the Danes want to dump their bond holdings, hey, okay.

That's not exactly true. He did jack up tariffs over this. He's not just laying back and saying, "I'd sure like to have Greenland someday" - he imposed a tariff on eight countries because they have not acceded to his demands. It basically scuttled the US-EU trade deal, which was pretty close to being done.

Plus, issuing dumb threats is doing something. Threats matter. Because other nations have to act on the threats. They can't assume they're nothing - partially because every national security threat has to be taken seriously and prepared for, and partially because Trump in particular has demonstrated that he's willing to do things that might otherwise have been dismissed as exceedingly unlikely.

And that's especially the case in a mutual collective security alliance like NATO, where the entire premise of the arrangement rests on the good-faith assertion that the parties will act in their common collective defense. If one country within the alliance issues threats against another country in the alliance, dumb or not, it reduces the effectiveness of the alliance.

They've asked him nicely to stop making the dumb threats. He keeps making the dumb threats. So they're going to start taking measures in response to the dumb threats.

Trump needs to share with the public what the urgency is that merits this kind of talk. Are the Europeans historical laggards when it comes to their own defense since, oh, 1990? Absolutely.

But them being less than useful isn't a justification for all this. Unless the US knows something else of relevance.

I wholeheartedly agree. Though I am very skeptical that there actually is any urgency that merits this approach. Partially because I think this approach is counterproductive. And partially because I'm skeptical that this is motivated by anything more than Trump believing that it's more to his credit in the history books if he expands U.S. territory, rather than pushing on an open door and just doing anything we want up there to increase defense without owning Greenland.

I guess it depends on how you understand the words hasn’t done anything

Heather Cox Richardson ended her Substack article as follows:

Tonight [last night] Danish troops—the same troops who stood shoulder to shoulder with U.S. troops in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021—arrived in Greenland to defend the island from the United States of America.

Meanwhile, equities are way down. So too the US dollar. And somebody’s selling US treasuries, because they are significantly down as well.

And it appears that world wide, SOMEONE(s) is/are buying the go to asset that people, banks and nations buy when it looks like things are going to hell in a hand basket- gold. Already up about 80% in the last 12 months, today’s spot price for an ounce of gold is up over $150 since last Friday’s close.

The urgency is keeping the Epstein files out of the public thoughts. Distract them with the kind of statements even you call dumb.

Plus, issuing dumb threats is doing something.

And he doesn’t leave it at that.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday shared a post on his Truth Social platform showing an old photograph of himself with other European leaders with the US flag depicting Canada, Greenland and Venezuela as a part of the United States. …. In another post, Trump is seen flanked by its Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hoisting a US flag in Greenland, with a milepost that reads, "Greenland US Territory Est 2026".

But Trump hasn't actually done anything.

Japan hadn’t “done anything” up until Dec. 6, 1941. Maybe we should have been a little more prepared based on the things they were saying.

Putin hadn’t “done anything” before Feb 24, 2002, but after he did something it was a bit late to start crying about it and hoping things would go back to normal.

But I’m sure if this was Obama threatening a NATO ally with invasion and takeover you’d be defending him saying “Well, it’s just talk. He hasn’t done anything .”

Ha ha ha. I better be careful. I’m liable to give myself a heart attack from laughing so loud.

I think Trump HAS done something very positive, and very important.

He's gotten the other NATO nations to acknowledge that Greenland is important.

He's gotten them to start to invest their own resources into Greenland.

He's a very stable genius.

Why would we? Bill Clinton publicly called on the U.S. Department of Justice to release all remaining documents in the Epstein files that relate to or mention him — including photos, records, and other materials.

So, where are the complete Epstein files that Trump promised to make public?

Laughable what-aboutism.

It has been said on these boards repeatedly that if Clinton is guilty of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein he should suffere the consequences.

You just want to protect your Dear Leader. You have, and will, excuse any corrupt, unethical or criminal thing he does. At least you are consistent.

"You people devote 0% of your energy in pursuing Clinton. 0.0%. Let's not kid ourselves as to why, either." - Dumbass Dope

Every single democrat/liberal here has indicated that they want the Epstein files completely released and let the chips fall where they might. If Clinton is implicated, so be it. What else do you want us to do regarding Clinton?

Perhaps you should be more forceful about Trump.......

Trump controls the files. Trump was best friends with him for years. Trump has commented on Epstein liking young girls. Trump sent Epstein intimate birthday cards and hung around him regularly at parties where all of this stuff was going on.

Yet you don't care about that. You don't care if Trump knew about the pedophilia and did nothing. He is your cult leader so you will look the other way just like you did when he was convicted of 34 felonies. Just like you did when he bragged about sexually assaulting women on tape. Just like you did when he was judicially acknowledged to be a rapist. And on and on.

It is why people here think you are a piece of shit and a despicable person. I hope you are a Christian and you are judged the way you want others to be judged. If so, enjoy hell.

I know Dope uses sources of information that take advantage of him and make him regularly look like an idiot. Maybe someone should tell him that Clinton is sweating so many bullets over the files that he wants them all immediately released. Especially the one's containing his name.

Exactly - it's Ruling Class who is scared of files.

I wish Trump would release it and just say "Look, I won two terms. They knew about Stormy. If they hear about me and some teenager -- heck, this country is so culturally fucked, not many people will care anyways they know I'm scummy and those who like me, like me. Now YOU on the other hand ---Clinton, CEOs, professors, judges, people with wives, kids etc....have a nice morning now. I'm not sure flowers will solve your troubles"

Agreed.

Though, to pick a nit, if the statute of limitations has expired, you can't really send him to prison. I have no idea what the statute of limitations is for pedophilia. If it has expired, then really the Epstein Files (which, I know, aren't really files) serve more to dissuade people from tolerating the pedophiles (e.g. the Felon). Hopefully to dissuade people from voting for them, hiring them, etc. Imprisoning them is not an option if the crime has "expired".

Which could lead me into a whole different tangent about why we have limitations at all. But I won't derail the thread for that.
