Fairfax Financial has had a great run recently and Price to Book of 1.62 is now the same as Berkshire Hathaway’s. Usually it trails substantially.

I wonder how much longer the trend can continue.

Fairfax Financial continuing its great run. Now at 1.7 PB, with Berkshire at 1.62 and Markel at 1.5.

When was it last at such a premium to book and also Berkshire?

Well, book value per share is probably up for Q2. The Total Return Swaps alone are looking to have a hell of a quarter. Fairfax still hasn't been added to the TSX 60 index.

I think the analog is the many many years that Berkshire traded at a large premium to accounting book value and it was a mistake to sell "on valuation."

Relative to earnings, Fairfax is not overvalued.

What is remarkable about this is that Fairfax has had this remarkable run up in the backdrop of Trump’s chaos and tariffs. Usually you would expect BRK to better in this environment, but not this time.
