I thought of that given the long train ride. But European domestic baggage is a lower limit than international, so we'd have to restrict our luggage a lot. Or pay extra for excess baggage. Which is an option, of course.
Experienced that several years ago when we flew into Munich international, ended up in Firenze, and then flew back to Munich to fly out. The connector had both size and weight restrictions less than the international legs.
