The ad says if dems are in power in the Senate and House they won't stop JD from dethroning Trump by way of the 25th. Not so sure about. Vance might be much much worse than Trump, in that Vance is actually competent and perhaps even more evil. Trump really only cares about himself and doesn't give a hoot about ideology or policy, whereas Vance does. On the other hand, if the reps are in power in the House and Senate, they're the ones who won't stop Vance. 😊

I think Vance is a leading contender in 2028 for the nomination regardless of whether Trump wins or loses.
I think DeSantis is far less likely to be a leading contender in 2028. Unlike Vance, he's going to be out of office - he's term limited and can't run again for governor in 2026, and neither Florida Senate seat is up that year. He displayed a remarkable lack of charisma and proficiency in his 2024 run against Trump, and he'll be several years away from the Covid response that brought him to national prominence. So the torrent of money that flowed to him in his 2024 run is pretty unlikely to be as large in 2028. He's got national name recognition from the 2024 run, and some national support - but it's just hard to see him being the other half of an epic two-person showdown with Vance.

BUT MAGA would be divided and bought off from within and defeated.
The Establishment (Google Jockey Inc) have sat on their hands and decided if they can't kill Trump and he won't lose - they need to just wait for him to do 2 terms, OR fizzle out. *Then* via dividing MAGA from within, *and* perhaps narrowing it down to ONE Establishment candidate vs multiple MAGA candidates, the Establishment takes back the GOP - at least a big part of it. The nuclear option here is paying a MAGA to go 3rd party, should Harris need the help or the Establishment wants to throw it to her.
They'll get someone who talks MAGA but is really Establishment.
JD *could* be that but if Trump loses, some GOP'ers are gonna question cat ladies, IVF Talibanism, tracking periods, etc.

Sure. But someone will be the GOP nominee in 2028. Even if Trump loses, Vance has significantly elevated himself within the party. His debate performance against Walz helped rehabilitate his political stock, and being a sitting Senator is not a terrible place to launch a campaign for the nomination. Being on the national ticket in 2024 also gives him a chance to build a national presence and infrastructure, and to do a lot of appearances for state and local pols. Even if Trump loses, I think he's in the top tier for the 2028 campaign. He might choose not to run, of course - nice to hold a Senate seat in a red state - but if he throws his hat in, he could do well.
Meanwhile, De Santis probably won't be in elected office leading into the 2028 nominating cycle. He's term limited, so he can't run again in 2026; and neither of our Senate seats will be up for election in 2026, so he can't try to move into that spot. I don't think he's too strong a candidate in 2028 regardless of whether Trump wins or loses.
