The State Department has stopped dispersing funds for grants affecting the longstanding international exchange and study-abroad programs that connect Americans to the world, including the Fulbright-Hays and Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship programs.
The confusion over the international programs is a small piece of the chaos unleashed as the Trump administration takes an ax to federal government spending. The administration has argued it is ending wasteful spending and identifying programs driven by left-leaning ideologies. Critics have said the cuts and uncertainty are diminishing America’s influence in the world.Individuals have been left stranded all across the world without access to the funds they had been promised.
Incidentally, the Fulbright Program is funded by annual appropriations from the U.S. Congress (t’s literally named after the senator that passed the bill) which makes this just another in a long line of illegal actions by the Trump administration.
Stupid is as stupid does.
I mean, the U.S. no longer needs the best and the brightest minds in the land of Trump, amirite?
