Misidentifying as a "child" these stages of development is a disingenuous emotional appeal.

Right. It is a deliberately duplicitous category error. At best, a zygote is a potential child. But a potential child that is barely more so than a sperm or an egg prior to fertilization. And with the right cloning technique, so to is any of one's 30+ trillion somatic cells with a complete complement of DNA a potential child!
