Indeed from now on, it needs to be required that all driver's licenses prominently display whether someone is a US Citizen, or not. This will streamline things.

Given how ubiquitous phony drivers' licenses are on college campuses, I'm not sure that will be very effective.
However, Canada can do what they like.
FWIW, I'm not opposed to national ID cards as long as they are free, so anyone who is eligible can get one. Wealth should not be a barrier to proving your citizenship status.

Yes, and if America wishes to put citizenship status on licenses, I hope "Americ can do what it likes" also.

That is a fair sentiment. It's reasonable.
How's it feel to be a minority of one :)

I have told the story before, about my getting that gold star "Real ID" indicator on my license. I was standing in line at the Secretary of State office, with my license renewal form, and the birth certificate I have had, literally, all my life. A clerk came down the line asking what everyone was there for. I said to obtain a Real ID license. She looked at my birth certificate, and said "that isn't a birth certificate. it's a souvenir from the hospital". I protested "it was good enough for the Navy" (but, of course, the US was nowhere near as nutty 50 years ago as it is now). She was not impressed. Fortunately, my life's wanderings brought me back to the county of my birth, so I drove down to the nearest Wayne County Clerk's office and ordered an official, certified, birth certificate. It was not free Given that, to obtain a "Real ID" driver's license, so I can board a domestic airline flight, or enter a Federal building, I had to pay for a birth certificate, I expect obtaining similar dox for a "citizenship" marker on a license to also be rationed by ability to pay.

Only if you are stupid enough to choose to pay the state upcharge. I don't.
US Passport valid for 10 yrs, so is a US Passport Card. Both are "Real ID", federally issued documents. ICE says fake? Then ICE is fake--source of THEIR "ID documentation" is ALSO the US govt. YET THEIR ID IS NOT VALID FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL OR CROSSING BORDERS.
Guess what? Right on the FACE of the US Passport CARD it states where you were born--at ZERO EXTRA CHARGE. So ICE either accepts actual federal identity documents or ICE IS NOT A GOVT AGENCY AND THEY CAN BE CHARGED WITH IMPERSONATING FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT.

But the card itself is not free. Apparently the initial card costs $65, and renewals cost $30. All so you don't get shoved into a prison, or shoved onto a jet and shipped to El Salvador.

Neither is a driver's license. Yet the Passport Card is CHEAPER per year to have and use.
A US National Identity Card would be FREE (no charge) AND would be an identity card that could NOT be refused as proof of citizenship for voting, for example. I got mine renewed when I got a new passport (old one expired).
Valid paperwork does NOT stop ICE from locking up US citizens or sending them overseas. All of which are specifically prohibited by law.

Neither is a Michigan state ID card. I could have sworn they were free, at one time, as Michigan requires government issued photo ID to vote. But an ID card now costs $10.
I was considering obtaining a "passport card" to keep from being shipped off to CECOT, when the Storm Troopers crash through my front door.
Then I looked at a Michigan "enhanced" driver's license:
from the net sifter:
Yes, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal border agents recognize a Michigan
Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) as valid proof of U.S. citizenship for land and sea border crossings. The EDL contains RFID technology that verifies citizenship through Department of Homeland Security (DHS) databases, serving as an acceptable alternative to a passport.
Key Details Regarding Michigan Enhanced Licenses:
Proof of Citizenship: Unlike a standard or "REAL ID-compliant" license, the Enhanced Driver's License specifically confirms both identity and U.S. citizenship.
Acceptability: They are accepted by DHS for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Identification: Michigan EDLs are designated by an American flag symbol on the front and the word "Enhanced".
Distinction from Real ID: While all EDLs are REAL ID-compliant, not all REAL IDs are Enhanced. A standard Michigan REAL ID (with a gold star) does not prove citizenship, whereas the Enhanced License does
My current license expires this year. Wonderful time to add more documents to my deportation resistance file.

Good timing.
Be sure to add a document ordering the immediate arrest and deportation of Spankee because he is convicted felon with 34 convictions. If ICE won't comply, get a WRITTEN statement from DOJ, asking them how many US felony convictions are required to arrest and deport "the worst of the worst" criminals now in the US. Covers all your bases.

The way the SA is carrying on, I would be lucky if they look at the card after they have beaten me up, dragged me through the snow, and hauled me off to a lock-up 100 miles from my home, vs ignoring it completely. Once they look at it, and use the embedded RFID chip to verify my citizenship, then they could kick me out the door, into a snowbank, then give me a lecture on "personal responsibility" when I ask them how I'm supposed to get home.

That's too easy. Take one of their vehicles and drive home. They paid for the trip to get there, so they pay for the trip back. As they abandoned their vehicle at your house, you sell it and use the money to buy a new (to you) vehicle of your choice. Established precedent when ICE sold the kid's cell phone and used the proceeds themselves.

Yes, I encountered that almost 30 years ago when I was bringing 1poorlady over from the Philippines. The birth certificate you get from the hospital with the footprints on it isn't a legal document. I had to request a certified copy by mail (the Internet wasn't really a thing yet, so there was no "doing it online").
I still have it locked away just in case.

It was still "request by mail" when I obtained certificates for both of my parents. In PA, there is a central location for all births in the state. I found, on line, an alphabetized list for all births in the early 1900s. Scrolled through and found my dad's, and learned he was born in Yardley, in Bucks County, and both of his parent's names. Mailed off the form with that information on it, and a check, and the certificate meandered in, eventually. In Michigan, the records are kept at the county level. I have a certificate of birth registration for my mom, which gives date and county. That county required I enclose a self-addressed, stamped, envelope, for them to mail the certificate to me. Threw me for a moment, when I opened the mailbox, and found an envelop addressed in my handwriting. For my paternal grandparents naturalization records, I made the request on line, in July 24. On March 31, 25, I received a reply they had found some documents and would mail images of them to me, on a CD. A couple weeks later, the CD showed up, with images of the statement of intent to become a citizen, application for citizenship, and the Certificate of Naturalization. As was the practice in 1921, the paperwork for my paternal grandfather lists the entire posse, so my dad was both born in the US, and a naturalized citizen.

I had to get my birth certificate from the county--which was where I lived. I got THREE certified copies, so Spankee is caught no matter what he tries.
If Spankee tries to mess with them at the county (MN--LOL), it will go VERY easily against him.
First the federal govt has ONE certified copy sent in to them LONG ago. They accepted it as valid. So, the county has the ORIGINAL because they certified it as being correct--right?
Second, how--and by whom--would the ORIGINAL (at the county offices) *not* match the federal govt certified copy on THEIR file?
Third, how would those TWO documents be DIFFERENT than the TWO *certified* copies I HAVE?
Yes, they all have the seal, raised imprint, signed, dated, and so on.
The judge is going to have a hard (easy?) time with this IF they try to play games. I guess you would say I play the LONG game. Spankee is eating the tiddlywinks--AGAIN.

I have a birth cert and papers in order. We could start a national registry database, but the Doge boys might give it out for voter suppression purposes. My birth cert is 1/2 page, green paper, looks easy to forge, and I think it should be free too.

Don't you mean that your wife had to request a copy of her birth certificate?
Oh right she's your indentured servant or something.
