I'm hearing that Trump says he reached a new trade agreement with China.
Odd that this didn't lead to a stock market blast off.
I hope this agreement lasts longer than the Gaza cease fire did.
Some quotes from Trump:
https://abcnews.go.com/International/trump-fentany..."Trump said the 20% tariffs on China related to fentanyl were being reduced to 10%, bringing the total amount of duties imposed on Chinese imports from 57% to 47%.
Trump said he agreed to reduce the tariff rate because China had agreed to "work very hard to stop the flow" of fentanyl."
"Trump also said Xi had "authorized China to begin the purchase of massive amounts of Soybeans, Sorghum, and other Farm products."
"We have a deal now," Trump told reporters. "Every year we'll renegotiate the deal, but I think the deal will go on for a long time, long beyond the year. We'll negotiate at the end of the year."
---------------------------------------------------------
To me, there is no sense in trying to get a hard number on what the actual
tariff amount on Chinese products that American businesses and Consumers will be
paying, as it seems to be always changing. But Wall St sure is not
acting like it's all that impressed.
So Trump has promised that China will be purchasing "massive amounts"
of US AG products. If I was a US Farmer, I'd be holding him to that boast.

Stupid question: why hasn't Trump imposed a 10 trillion percent tariff on fentanyl precursor chemicals from China?
I guess I'm joking since presumably those chemicals are coming in illegally anyway? Or can they be used to make other substances besides fentanyl?

The discussion on, iirc, Amanpour, last night reached a consensus that the "arty deal" puts us back to where we were, before Trump's latest round of agitation. Of course, Trump calls it a win, saying words to the effect "on a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 12", because, of course, no-one is as perfect and able as he is.

Trump is negotiating with himself to unsuccessfully undo the self-inflicted wounds he imposed on America.

Besides tariff levels, Trump got them to agree to purchase 12 metric tons o soybeans this year, then 25 million tons minimum for each of the next three years. He also got them delay for one year some sort of export restriction on rare earths they were about to impose. There was some other stuff to but the point is there was lots more to the meeting than tariffs. Trump even prevailed on the alpha handshake with Xi.

From the Google net sifter:
China imported approximately 24.17 million metric tons of US soybeans in 2023. This figure represents a significant portion of China's total soybean imports for the year, though it was a decline compared to 2022
So, where is that big "win" for his nibs?
Trump even prevailed on the alpha handshake with Xi.

In other words, next year China will return to its previous levels of buying beans.
2024- China purchased 27M tons.
What is it that Trump “won” with this deal? Other than returning to the status quo?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenroberts/2025/09/30...For the first time in two decades, China bought no soybeans from the United States for two consecutive months and, more importantly, it also has no orders in for the coming peak season....so they weren't buying, now they are.

..so they weren't buying, now they are.
They were buying before Trump took office
Then they weren’t buying after Trump started his foolish trade war.
Now they are buying again- or at least say they will buy.
So tell us why we had to go through this Kabuki theater in order to simply return us to the level of buying that was in place before Trump started his trade war?

Yep. Trump is the Evilest Orange Man on the planet. Literally Hitler, and because he hates all brown people on the planet, he's launched into this unilateral trade war with China, a country that has the world's best interests in mind and who always trades favorably with everyone it deals with. We should all strive to emulate China.

Progs/Dems/Libs don't understand the big picture. They think Trump's seemingly erratic, ever-changing negotiation strategies in various contexts (including tariffs) aren't purposeful. One major purpose is to show our geopolitical adversaries is that we have a President who is more than willing to use whatever levers he has available to try to gain an advantage for America and the American people. Yet, Trump is a realist, and is also more than willing to take a series of small wins over time, rather than taking an outrageous position and being psychologically locked into it (as the Democrats now find themselves over the shutdown).
That's because they worshipped, in turn, an aged, white male, senile incompetent; and then his intended successor, a DEI prematurely-senile incompetent.

Nothing like someone afflicted with Trump Worship Syndrome lobbing slurs
at Biden and Harris.
You should be super proud of Diaper Donnie, he possibly managed to get
China to open up their markets for American Ag products. Yup, the brain addled
Trump quite possibly talked China into agreeing to purchase close to the
same amount of American Ag products as they did in 2024, before Trump
began his MENSA-level tariff strategy. Nice Job !!!

Nice, MAGA mixes grade school name calling with a touch of racism...
Meanwhile in the real world:
15 Million Americans are about to be priced out of healthcare as Trump shows off his marble/gold bathroom renovation
AND his administration fights in court to withhold food stamps funds from children.
Are we great again yet?

Gotta' love the way the cult worships a man who creates a catastrophe out of a problem that never existed in the first place, then "resolves" the catastrophe with a "solution" that is inferior to the previous status quo, celebrating his negotiating "genius."
Sheesh.
Here, try this dose of reality:
Due to rising costs, low crop prices and the effects of the trade war, economists project that growers could see roughly $44 billion in net cash income losses from their 2025–26 crops.
At a September conference on agriculture and trade uncertainty hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank, Shawn Arita, professor at North Dakota State University and former senior economist with the USDA, presented projections showing losses across nine major crops. The art of the deal.
Schmucks.

The original tariffs were certainly an outrageous position, and Trump did the taco. It looks like Trump lost on SNAP. Pulled his ass out of the fire on soy - he's a singed soy boy. I'm relaxed and waiting for the end show on the shutdown.
