...and the latest loser to play this card is Squad member Jamaal Bowman, who is now famous for pulling the fire alarm last week in the Capitol complex. Now he says that it's all the Nazi Republicans' fault:

https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24002791-r...

(Original document)

I believe Congressman Bowman when he says this was an accident. Republicans need to instead focus their energy on the Nazi members of their party before anything else.

Only an idiot would believe this was an accident, of course, only idiots throw around Nazi this and Nazi that at the same time.

Bowman is what one would call a Royal Idiot, and since we now have the standard that doing anything unlawful in the Capitol complex means jail time, then charge him and remove him from his office.

And the other end of this is when you actually encounter REAL Nazis, certain members of the left wing tribe all of a sudden claim that they're not actually Nazis:

https://www.politico.eu/article/fight-against-ussr...

This is in reference to the standing ovation Canada's Parliament full of historical illiterates gave to a 90-something year old Waffen SS member.

Here's what this spectacularly stupid article has to say:

Canada's Hunka scandal is a demonstration of how when history is complicated, it can be a gift to propagandists who exploit the appeal of simplicity.

Oh, really? Politco ought to know what propangandists are; they themselves fit the bill pretty darned well.

It gets better:
Everybody knows that a lie can make it halfway around the world before the truth has even got its boots on.

And the ongoing turmoil over Canada's parliament recognizing former SS trooper Yaroslav Hunka highlights one of the most important reasons why.

Something that's untrue but simple is far more persuasive than a complicated, nuanced truth ' a major problem for Western democracies trying to fight disinformation and propaganda by countering it with the truth, and one reason why fact-checking and debunking are only of limited use for doing so.

left wing chutzpah at its finest. It literally doesn't get any better than this. So what does Politico think the truth actually is?

In the case of Hunka, the mass outrage stems from his enlistment with one of the foreign legions of the Waffen-SS, fighting Soviet forces on Germany's eastern front. And it's a demonstration of how when history is complicated, it can be a gift to propagandists who exploit the appeal of simplicity.

This history is complicated because fighting against the USSR at the time didn't necessarily make you a Nazi, just someone who had an excruciating choice over which of these two terror regimes to resist. However, the idea that foreign volunteers and conscripts were being allocated to the Waffen-SS rather than the Wehrmacht on administrative rather than ideological grounds is a hard sell for audiences conditioned to believe the SS's primary task was genocide.

Maybe that's because the SS's primary task WAS genocide.
This author could give a bag of hammers a run for their money in an IQ contest. He must be unaware that to get into the SS you had to...swear allegiance to Adolf Hitler himself.

Dumb. On stilts. But this is what today's media has become, even as they label any and everything that doesn't fit the left wing narrative "misinformation".

Minor quibble. EVERYONE in the military had to swear allegiance to Hitler personally, not just the SS. I think also civil servants had to do it.

The author also doesn't seem to know there were two SS-es. The Waffen SS, which was their elite combat units, and the "normal" SS which was responsible for most of the genocide. The Wehrmacht was the regular army.

This particular unit had quite the record:

https://www.realhistoryonline.com/soldiers/14thss-...
From some of the volunteers who were not included in the first recruitment to the Galicia division, on the initiative of Himmler, the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Galician SS volunteer regiments ( die Galizische SS-Freiwillige Regimenter ). They armed themselves and received supplies from the Central Bureau of the SS division in cooperation with the HSSPf from the Ukraine and Ordnungspolizei (Orpo). These regiments were subordinated not to the military, but to the police command of the Germans, in particular to the highest leader of the SS and police of the General Government. In February 1944, the 4th and 5th Galician volunteer regiments, according to the order of Himmler, were sent to fight the Soviet and Polish partisans. They were included in the Galicia division in June 1944.

According to the Polish and Ukrainian historical commissions, in February 1944, the 4th Galician Volunteer Regiment, with the assistance of the UPA, took part in the destruction of the Polish village of Guta Penyatska, where 172 houses were burned and more than 500 people of the Polish population, including women and children. In March, they themselves, with the assistance of the UPA detachment, in the Dominican monastery of the village of Podkamen killed more than 250 Poles.

Somebody should tell the Politico writer that Poles /= Soviets.
The Poles, by the way, want this guy back there for investigation and trial.

I'm not following this closely, but I did read that. Any former NAZIs are wanted by someone. The Jews (Israel), the Poles, etc. There aren't too many left, at this point. That guy is pushing 100.

Interesting that at the Nuremburg Trials, the Galicia division wasn't found guilty of war crimes (though other divisions were). Curious. I suspect Poland will get him back, and we'll see what comes of it. Meanwhile, and embarrassment for Canada and Zelynski.

Meanwhile, and embarrassment for Canada and Zelynski.

As well as a cautionary tale for people like the Politico writer and anyone else who wants to casually toss around the "NAZI" label.
