This one flew entirely under my radar. As some here may know, after leaving Radio Shack, I worked for Office Depot, until the company decided they didn't want a Steelcase dealership, and everyone in my department was laid off, at the end of 99.
For the last 25 years, Office Depot has been described as a "troubled company", and appeared on several lists of "retailers that could vanish in the next year".
In late September, Depot was bought by a private equity company. As we have seen before, PE is often the kiss of death for companies. But I'm sure the Depot honchos will pocket a handsome "change of control" payout, and that's all they care about.

The pump seal company circled the drain, until it was bought by one of it's pump company customers. Radio Shack went BK in 2015. Workplace Integrators, where I went after being laid off from Depot, went out of business in early 2006.
A look back, at the go-go days of Depot, in the early 90s, when management thought all they had to do to increase revenue and profits, was build more stores. The store I worked in looked very much like the one in the ad. I wore out my OD shirts some years ago, but still wear my OD sweatshirt around the house.
