I suspect that very few of you have ever written a research grant proposal and fewer still understand where the money goes. That’s the first point.

Most people can, but not all people can safely get vaccinations. For those people, the more members of society that are sick, the more likely they are to get sick. This is why many years ago the science determined we are MUCH better off if vaccinations are very wide spread.
I understand some healthy people don't want to get a vaccination, only to help other people... but that is pretty selfish of them.

This is just wrong. Kids were and still are considered a big vector in spreading the disease. If the object is to limit the spread, which during the initial phases of the pandemic is an object, then kids are good to be vaccinated when there becomes enough vaccine available. We had fear and misinformation being generated by supposed "adults", which lead to more folks becoming antivaxx.
And I do remember that during one major spread the Oklahoma panhandle's hospitals were overwhelmed, so they transferred kids with corona out of those hospitals to another state. It's the only time I remember where they were saying that kids were being infected by corona in large enough amounts to matter. If there's one spot, there's probably another. The object was to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed. They did become overwhelmed.

Just like other hospitals in Oklahoma, Oklahoma's children's hospitals are experiencing a staff shortage. One doctor said while they have the beds to accept additional patients, they don't have enough people to staff the open beds.
In addition to the staff shortage, doctors are saying many of the medicines used to treat COVID are in short supply as well. Health care workers say because of this short supply, they are having to pick and choose carefully who gets the treatment.

What matters is the percentage of the population that’s reasonably resistant or immune to the disease. He assumption you’re making is that the only possible way to get there is to for everyone to line up and get the shot.
Diseases and illnesses live on a spectrum. Take smallpox - it’s deadly enough that we don’t want it around. Get the shot - any risks are outweighed by the benefits.
