Ambassador Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun insists that comparing what's happening today in America with Anne Frank is historically inaccurate and “cheapens the horror of the Holocaust" because "Anne Frank was in Amsterdam legally and abided by Dutch law.”

Umm.

Margot Frank received an official call-up notice (Aufruf) on July 5, 1942, ordering her to report for “labor service” in Germany. She ignored the notice and the family went into hiding the next morning, July 6, 1942.

Once they ignored the summons and went into hiding, they became illegal in a practical and legal sense.

They lived without valid papers, without registering their address, and without legal ration cards.

They relied on forged documents and the help of non-Jewish protectors — activities that were criminal offenses under German occupation law.

Holocaust revisionism, 'cause you gotta' avoid the possibility of empathy for migrants at all costs.

"Anne Frank was in Amsterdam legally and abided by Dutch law.”

I have told the story before, of my homeroom teacher in Jr High. He lived in the Netherlands during the occupation. He was a native born Dutch citizen. He said German soldiers frequently gave him the stink-eye because of his black hair. One day, he and two friends were walking along, minding their own business, when they were challenged by German soldiers. They ran for their lives. One of his friends fell behind and the Germans grabbed him. He never saw his friend again.
