bighairymike: Regardless, collusion with big tech to censor speech that the government is prohibited from doing directly is abhorrent, regardless of which party is doing it.

Look, you're a bright guy but even you thought this was all a Biden administration policy. What about the folks who aren't so bright?

I mean, why, exactly, should someone on Facebook or Twitter with a broad audience be able to post lies or disinformation that endanger lives?

Simple example: I have a relative who wore nicotine patches for two weeks because she was convinced (by social media accounts online) that individuals vaccinated by the mRNA vaccine shed the vaccine (not the virus, the vaccine) in public and will contaminate her. Somehow, the nicotine destroys the shed vaccine.

And why shouldn't Facebook or Twitter, private companies, be able to determine whether messages violate their terms of service? Both Twitter and Facebook have declined governmental suggestions by both the Trump and Biden administrations.

Do you honestly believe Russian disinformation about the invasion of Ukraine should be given free rein? Or Iranian disinformation designed to influence the 2024 presidential election should be left for voters to decide what's true and what's false.

Isn't that what one of the supreme court justices suggested: let Americans have the information and let them decide what's true and what's false?

That seemed odd to me. You don't decide what's true and what's false. Either something is true or it's false. If you decide the earth is flat, that doesn't make the fact that the earth is round, false.
