I doubt it. I have great respect for Trump’s stupidity, but even “ground troops” is a step too far. That’s why he wants everybody else to “open the strait” but not us because “we’re fine.”
Anyway, Iran is totally defeated and their defenses are obliterated, never mind the two US war planes shot down in the last two days. Nothing to see there.

An excellent point made in the General McChrystal article GES posted is that it is trivially easy for Iran to keep the strait closed. There really is no military solution to this problem; it has to be diplomatic. The fact that our allies understand this, and Trump does not is quite telling.

Rant #1, from 2003, updated and amended for the reign of Trump the Magnificent: he does NOT want the strait opened. Obstructing exports is the objective of the operation, because it tightens supply on the market. Taking Persian Gulf shipping off line greatly increases profits for USian big oil, who not only has unencumbered domestic production, but also has priority access to Venezuelan oil.
The original Rant #1 stated the objective of the Iraqi invasion was to take Iraqi production off line, to tighten supply, to increase the profits of big oil.
Bush and Cheney had long standing connections to big oil. Trump the Great and Powerful allegedly promised big oil "everything they want", for a $1B bribe.

There really is no military solution to this problem; it has to be diplomatic.
As Trump has openly said, anyone in Iran that stands up to open a dialog, is promptly killed, generally by US/Israeli bombing.
The Israelis have a term for perpetual war, periodic bombing, over and over and over: "mowing the lawn", to suppress an opponent that has proven resistant to eradication.
I might suggest that "mowing the Iranian lawn" is the job the US has been nominated for. Iran is too big to overrun by force of arms, then stand up a Quisling. So, simply keep bombing them to keep their heads down, so they can't interfere with Israeli ambition. This has the happy outcome of the Strait being a constant war zone, so oil from other sources becomes dramatically more profitable.
