Enjoyed this read and happened to be in Omaha as well:

Warren Buffett Shocked 31,000 Shareholders And Taught a Brilliant Lesson in Leadership

Excerpt:

“…For six decades, Buffett has been celebrated as one of the greatest investors of all time. But his final lesson may have little to do with capital allocation or valuation models. It’s a lesson in leadership maturity.

The mark of greatness is when your organization thrives in your absence. Ego seeks to be remembered. Legacy seeks to endure. And Buffett, even as he steps off the stage, chose legacy.

As my wife and I stood with 30,000 others giving Buffett a standing ovation, the room vibrated with gratitude. It wasn’t just applause for a legendary investor.

It was a tribute to a leader who understood that the truest test of greatness is what you leave behind. Being in that room, watching history turn a page in real time, was a privilege I’ll never forget.”

"In the second chapter of his book Good to Great, Jim Collins, a management thinker, drew a distinction about leadership that explains why Buffett’s announcement is significant. He distinguished between Level 4 and Level 5 leaders:

Level 4 leaders are effective, ambitious, and inspiring; however, their company’s success depends on their presence. When they leave, the business suffers.
Level 5 leaders, however, combine professional will with personal humility. Their ambition is directed at their company’s mission, not at themselves. They build greatness that lasts beyond their tenure.
Most executives plateau at Level 4. They build companies that shine today but stumble when they depart. Buffett’s exit and endorsement of Abel represent a rare instance of Level 5 leadership in action."

I thought about this and wondered what other Level 5 leaders are out there;

any suggestions.....

Tim Cook?
Jamie Dimon?
Jensen Huang?
Satya Nadella?
Mary Bara?
Stephen Squeri?
Elon Musk???

ciao
