Remember Joe Kent's comment, several days ago, about how Trump sabotages negotiations with Iran by continually injecting "poison pills".

Here's another:

U.S. eyes Iranian assets for Gulf allies’ reconstruction, source says

The U.S. will attempt to redirect Iranian assets to Gulf states for rebuilding and repairs of damage caused by Iran, a source familiar with the matter said, as Tehran followed up a wave of strikes against Kuwait and Bahrain with further drone launches.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has directed a team to assess costs for damage inflicted on Gulf allies by Iran, the source said on Saturday, adding the U.S. will consider using Iranian assets for repairs of any future destruction as well.

Iran wants it's assets returned, and reparations for damage suffered from USian aggression. So the US says "not only are we not going to pay for the damage we caused, we are going to steal your assets, to pay for the damage you did while defending yourself".

Any more questions about Trump the Mighty's intent?

What he is making obvious is that he doesn't want a deal at this stage.

It may be a comeback on the Mullahs' recent statement that they want their assets unfrozen - something like "if we were to unfreeze your assets we would use them to repair the destruction you caused".

What is not clear is whether this is because

- he doesn't want to be seen as having lost his war at this stage (waiting for a distraction)
- he thinks he will get better cards / a better deal at a later stage and that will ultimately outweigh the increasing damage with his fan base (and the economy)

What is not clear is whether this is because

Or he's taking a page from the playbook the EU has been talking about: liquidating frozen Russian assets to help finance Ukraine's defense, but flipping it around, so it's the attacker seizing the assets, instead of the country that was attacked.
