Sen. Josh Hawley has written an essay calling for guardrails on AI to protect people, labor, and the American way of life. He references the GUARD Act, which is currently in Congress. I am not a supporter of Hawley’s (to put it mildly), but I am interested in the regulation of AI, and IMHO Hawley is expressing a credible, populist point of view and is staking out a position that has pretty big political and economic implications.

Warning: this particular essay is long on patriotic and quasi-religious themes and short on technical detail, and it isn’t historically very accurate, Unclear if it will be influential, but Hawley has a seat at the table, and that means something. Sharing for those who may be interested.

And a related Politico story on a GOP “revolt” brewing over the regulation of AI, or more accurately, the lack thereof. Populists v. Wall Street. Stay tuned.
