Senate dismisses the impeachment charges against Mayorkas, without any debate:

Obviously, Mayorkas was never going to be convicted (and thus removed). The only real drama was whether the Senate would dispose of the charges on a motion to dismiss or hold a truncated trial.

That might be the nail in the coffin for Comer's impeachment efforts against Biden as well. He's been struggling to get all the centrists on board to begin with (he needs virtual unanimity from the GOP to pass the articles out of the House). Of course, there's no chance of Biden getting convicted in the Senate, either - but the argument would be that getting the opportunity to plead their position to the American people through a trial was worth it, even though the outcome was all-but-predetermined. However, the Senate's willingness to approve a motion to dismiss for Mayorkas makes it pretty likely the same would occur for a Biden impeachment. Which makes it that much harder for Comer to make that case.
