The fossilized left has been governing Europe for decades. During that time, it has largely pushed massive social welfare states, unchecked mass immigration (often from former colonies and/or other places that do not share nor care to adopt European cultural norms) and, of late, are pushing mass de-industrialization especially in their energy sectors.

If I worked for Chinese and/or Russian intelligence and I wanted to piledrive the European continent...this is how I'd do it.

However, in country after country the citizens are feeling the effects of what amounts to single-ideology rule and are revolting. So naturally the dying legacy liberal parties are "standing up for democracy"...by banning the other side.

You can't make these people up.
