I used to walk on the old Alameda Naval Air Station, past where Wrightspeed has a facility making hybrid powertrains for upgrading existing tractors, buses, etc. No idea how successful they are, or how big the hybrid truck industry is.
If the economics are anything like hybrid taxis, it might be a good intermediate step. It felt like Toyota Priuses were utterly dominating the taxi market, at one point. With Bolt / Uber so widespread that may be less significant now, but clearly there was an economic driver for so many of the same model to appear in taxi fleets.
