I was wondering if, concerned that threatened and actual "election monitoring" by Trump's goons will depress democratic votes at the polls, that dem leadership shouldn't encourage vote-by-mail as much as possible? Seems like the best way to combat Trump's election fcukery.

Given that it takes *some* effort to vote (which is why 33% of the country doesn’t bother) I don’t worry too much about these suppression tactics. My feelings might be different if I was a minority, or even voting in a minority district, but the numbers of people who are going to be cowed into not voting I would think (or hope, at least) is pretty small.
I am more concerned about other things:
* Republicans in charge of voting, where they did make it harder - but only in Democratic districts (by putting out fewer machines leading to long lines).
* Redistricting with the express purpose of restricting minority representations.
* And a Republican hyper-partisan now in charge of counting the votes via his purchase of Dominion systems. That’s a biggie.
* Also Republicans not seeming to care about checks and balances, the Constitution, the White House, having a deranged President doing whatever he pleases, subverting the voting for the USSC, not certifying an established Democratic Representative, unprecedented corruption, wholesale firing of competent staff, using the DoJ for retribution, and, you know, all the rest.

CA already encourages mail-in voting. I received my ballot weeks ago and have already voted by “Mail”. I actually dropped my envelope at a drop box by city hall, and I’ve received notification that my vote has been received and counted.
IMO, CA election committees should request local police presence at voting places, to make sure no one is threatened and to record any violations by federal agents. It shouldn’t be hard to do because there are relatively very few in-person voting places for this election. Most people are voting by mail or drop box.

Given that Trump is, again, advocating for "mail in voting" to be banned, you may not have a choice. Once everyone is corralled into the polling place, and only on one election day, they will be easier to "monitor". Then send the good squads to only "monitor" heavily Dem precincts, demanding proof of citizenship, at the polls, thanks to new "election security" laws that could be passed by Congress, or by diktat. It would be easy to swing an election, in plain sight, and call it "security".

Given that Trump is, again, advocating for "mail in voting" to be banned, you may not have a choice. I'd say there's a zero percent chance that even deep red states could ban mail-in voting completely, even if Trump "demanded" it.
Currently, ALL states allow mail in voting, although some require a valid excuse for having to do so. Things like being in a nursing home, or being otherwise home bound, or disabled, etc.

Another chain of speculation doing its part to drive the level of anxiety higher. You don't recognize comic relief now? Trump shouldn't get a third term. I think he'll be unfit by 2028, but Miller and Company will still be there. The guiding principle that you have no principles is still there and voter suppression is the rule, so we expect that. That's why I took a picture of this:
https://imgur.com/gallery/look-trump-says-voting-b...Remember when he used the fact that mail in votes get counted last to manufacture a stolen election lie? Trump, MAGA, and the Republicans have driven up everyone's anxieties, and they are going to ratchet it up more for 2028. Half of America should be terrorists by then. What a country!
