Actually, the USN was founded for trade protection: to deter other countries doing what the US is now doing to tankers that venture near Venezuela.
Watch this space for announcement of a blockade of Columbia, taking another 700,000bpd off the market, and bombing of Kharg Island, to take another 2Mbpd off the market. Then a subservient media will start screaming "OIL SHORTAGE!!!" again. Recall, when Israel attacked Iran, a few years ago, Biden begged them to *not* bomb Kharg Island, but the current regime has different priorities.
fwiw, I added XOM today, the only one of the "three amigos" that I did not already own. I worked an oil trade for several years, the last time Shinyland had a blatantly NeoCon regime, and it paid handsomely.

The Sec Energy says what I have been saying, out loud. Preventing other's access to Venezuelan oil, is just about as good as having exclusive access to it, and easier to implement.
We’re not taking Venezuela’s oil, we’ve prevented them from selling it: Energy Secretary
That only seems to have an affect on Cuba. Oil becomes worthwhile in Venezuela at around $80. I think we don't know what we're doing, and I'm hoping for some serendipity.
