A dated reading on the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge showed prices remained elevated before the war in Iran broke out, reinforcing that the central bank will remain on hold.

Inflation for the month of February as measured by the Personal Consumption Expenditures Index rose 2.8%. On a “core” basis, excluding volatile food and energy prices, inflation clocked in at 3%. Both were in line with expectations.

Mind you, this is prior to the Trump/Republican choice to go to war, spending billions of dollars each day and the spike in oil prices with no end in sight.

US CPI: the trend is not your friend. On a three-month annualized basis inflation is up 8.2% and is up 5.6% on a 6-month annualized pace.

Over the past year energy prices were up 23.5%, energy commodities 40.6% and gasoline prices 40.6%.

I had a dash cam put in Mrs. Goofy’s car yesterday, I went back to the old guy who works out of his garage doing “anything that works with 12 volts” as he says. Been doing it for 40 years - and he’s good. We don’t talk politics, we just chatter about stuff, the weather, and how his kids are doing or whatever. When it comes time to pay, he says, “Here, look at this”.

He tracks how he’s doing month by month compared to last year; some app that starts out with a big square on the screen. (Square? Maybe? Dunno. Don’t use it.) Last year, every month was better than the same month the year before. Same with January and February this year. March was about even.

April, down 10%. May, down 25%. So far in June, down 39% month-to-date, although it’s early so that could be a wobble. But I suspect his clientele aren’t springing for new car speakers, add-on GPS, wheel well lights, security systems and all the other stuff that he does and makes the wires disappear and makes it all work.

His app only shows his credit card transactions, which last year were about $70,000. (Very slick presentation: bar charts in blue and gray). If the current trend continues he’ll finish this year at half that, maybe. Yeah, those gas prices: no problem dude. Just suck it up. Or maybe not.

The pedophile who promised to fix inflation on day one took inflation from +2.9% to +4.2% and says he "loves" it!
