Why would anyone sign on to anything where the Felon is "chairman for life"?
To suck up to him.
Remember how the new members of NATO sucked up to the Bush junta and his made up war in Iraq? Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and ever hopeful Ukraine all supported the made up war.
Meanwhile, Rumsfeld dismissed the countries that told Bush and his made up war to get stuffed, as "old Europe".
from the net sifter:
Donald Rumsfeld's "Old Europe" comment in 2003 divided European nations, labeling France and Germany as "old" for opposing the Iraq War, contrasting them with "new" Eastern European countries supporting the U.S., highlighting a shift in NATO's center of gravity eastward and signaling a generational divide over foreign policy and transatlantic alignment. The remark sparked controversy, with many in "old" Europe feeling denigrated, while Rumsfeld later claimed he meant "old NATO," though he embraced the term, noting the demographic reality of an aging Europe.
Context of the Comment
When: January 22, 2003, at a press conference.
Why: In response to French and German opposition to the impending U.S.-led war in Iraq.
The Quote (paraphrased): "You're thinking of Europe as Germany and France. I don't. That's old Europe. If you look at the entire NATO Europe today, the center of gravity is shifting to the East... Germany has been a problem, and France has been a problem. But you look at vast numbers of other countries in Europe. They're not with France and Germany on this, they're with the United States"
So it is now, with luminaries like Hungary and Belarus signing on to Trump's extortion scheme.
Thing is, Trump the Magnificent and Perfect will not be satisfied with a few tens of millions for a short term membership. He will want a Billion from everyone. That is going to squeeze a lot of those countries, who could probably better use that money for health care or education. But Trump doesn't care about the Proles of those countries.
