On the wire today:

Trump reportedly wants to ‘take the oil in Iran’ as Tehran targets water, power facilities in Kuwait

Trump told the Financial Times on Sunday that his “preference would be to take the oil,” comparing it to the U.S. military operation in Venezuela earlier this year where the U.S. effectively gained control of the Latin American country’s oil industry, following the capture of its leader Nicolas Maduro.

Trump’s “take the oil” madness

Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump has said repeatedly the United States should take Iraq’s oil as the spoils of war. With him, it’s an old refrain that goes back at least five years.

But Trump never says what “taking the oil” of Iraq really means: an endless occupation army in the Persian Gulf surrounded by enemies, without allies, and isolated hopelessly from the Islamic world. It would have to be an open-ended occupation, which would polarize America more than ever. It would reinvigorate the global jihad, and it would disgrace our fundamental values as a nation.

Good to see we are inching towards having the real reasons for Iran war involvement distilled.

Latest draft:

1. Benjamin forced our hand - he was going to attack no matter what, with Iran in return threatening our bases, and our ME friends (source: Rubio)
2. Take the oil! (source: Trump)
3. Venezuela was so much fun! (source: press reports)

1. Benjamin forced our hand - he was going to attack no matter what,

Maybe that was part of the sales pitch "Bibi" used: "fight our war for us, and you can take the oil, like you wanted to in Iraq, and make lots and lots of MONEY".
